  1. Great article, I honestly had no idea that bidding fee auctions were a viable business model in modern eCommerce, this is the first one I have encountered in a long time and it seems to have extremely rapid success as you pointed out describing the growth of the company.

    Is there any competition in this market as of yet? Unless they’ve mastered search engine optimisation it seems difficult to find anything that could be considered direct competition. I wonder how much of the companies success can be attributed to dominating the market and how it will fare if competition arises?

    • Thanks for the comment. Yeah bidding fee auctions are going rampant at the moment with alternatives such as quibid.com, megabids.com, planetbid.com and endless other knock-offs. And although the legitimacy of bidding fee auctions can come into question, there is no questioning the success they have obtained.

      In bidding fee auctions for flights it appears OneCentFlights have found a niche market, however as mentioned before in general there are hundreds of auctions sites. It seems all the general auction flights have reached a happy balance and can all coexist, so any competition would hopefully do the same for OneCentFlights.

  2. Firstly you have a very easy to read and well laid out blog. The cover of the principles made for easy reading. My only suggestion would be to integrate how this platform meets the principles a little more. For example other than having a small number of staff to begin with what other resources and/or infrastructure did they outsource to keep it ‘lean’?
    How have 1c flights marketed themselves other than social media?

    • Thanks for your comment. You raise some good points, unfortunately due to the smaller notoriety of onecentflights I was unable to find how they store their data or the infrastructure they have used. So one could only speculate.

      As for how they have marketed themselves they have gained free advertising through morning shows and used viral marketing. So this model is very cheap (free infact).
